Victims mourned as Kumamoto Prefecture marks 10 years since deadly earthquakes
The April 2016 quakes claimed the lives of a total of 278 people in Kumamoto and neighboring Oita Prefecture, including deaths from indirect causes.
The disaster management agency, which would serve as the government’s command center for disaster prevention and response, will be created through the reorganization and strengthening of the Cabinet Office’s disaster management division.
